Cherry Blossom

1 Cherry Blossom bowl

A long time ago I was fortunate to be in Japan at Nara temple in the middle of cherry blossom time. The image stuck in my memory of this beautiful garden full of cherry blossom leaves constantly falling like a pink white snow storm. Through the park the deer wandered freely and without fear, they are known as the Buddhas messengers.

2 Cherry Blossom Round vase

I remember wanting to see those beautiful trees which grew in fantastic shapes, when I came home I realised they were everywhere but I hadn't taken notice of them. This design employs three or four types of colouring techniques in the one vase giving a feeling of landscape and movement in the air.

3 Cherry Blossom Flower Vase

The danger with this shape when it is blown without the use of moulds is that it can be different every time, at least it can when I do it. I now accept that as a virtue because it means there is a freedom of expression in every piece, no two will have the same feeling, this one I particularly like.
