Orange Barque

3 Orange Barque

Orange barque is white glass overlaid with a ground of dark greens making the foreground,floating on the white are shards of orange brown glass which are prepared by blowing a balloon of colour and then breaking it into shards. These are placed on a heated table and lifted onto the hot glass ball.

4 Orange Barque

Like most of my work the names are suggested by the piece which originates purely from a visual idea. The orange shapes seemed to relate to two things, first the strips of bark peeling off a tree the eucalyptus and then the sails of the thames barges which can still be seen with their workmanlike red sails off our coasts. So a poor pun "Orange Barque".

7 Orange Barque

Strangely another link with boats are the shapes of the vessels which seem to lend themselves to my "boat shapes". Leads me to suppose that my naval manoeuvers weren't entirely wasted after all.

I suppose the rum barrel may have influenced this shape but perhaps that's stretching the naval connection too far.
